How to install Flutter and Dart plugins Android Studio

Install additional plugins that will improve your development experience with Flutter.

In Introducing Flutter Mobile application framework we introduced the cross platform development framework known as Flutter. We’ll delve a little deeper and explore hot to get your Android Studio IDE configured correctly to start developing cross platform mobile applications using flutter.

In the previous article we installed Android studio and Flutter and configured our Ubuntu Workstation to start developing with Flutter. However, what we need to do now is install additional plugins that will improve your development experience with Flutter.

To do this we need to start Android Studio and at the start screen navigate to Plugins

The first plugin you want to install is the Flutter, which can be found in the marketplace using the keyword flutter,

install the plugin by clicking the install plugin. This plugin provides support for developing Flutter applications

Install the Flutter Plugin

Install Dart plugin

Search for the Dart plugin in the marketplace and install it. This plugin provides smart coding assistance for Dart that includes code completion, formatting, navigation, intentions, refactorings, and more. It will really help when coding.

Install Flutter Snippets plugin

Once the installation is complete we’ll want to install one last plugin the flutter snippets plugin. This plugin enables you to add add Live Templates to your IDE saving time writing the boilerplate in Flutter


Once you have completed installing these plugins simply restart the Android studio and you now have the best IDE configured to start developing cross platform applications using Flutter.
